About Show Low
Show Low grew up around a famous poker game. As the story goes, two ranchers agreed to settle who would keep the land with a single hand of cards, and the winning low card gave the town both its name and its main street, the Deuce of Clubs. Today it is the retail, dining, and medical center of the region, which is exactly why so many buyers land here when they want mountain living without giving up convenience.
The town is wrapped in ponderosa pine and surrounded by lakes, with four true seasons: cool green summers while the desert bakes, colorful falls, snowy winters, and mild springs. Neighborhoods run the full range, from in-town homes and newer subdivisions to gated communities like Torreon and Bison Ridge and wooded acreage on the edges of town.
Things to Do & See
- Fool Hollow Lake — A cool, pine-ringed lake with camping, boating, and some of the best trout fishing around, just minutes from downtown.
- Show Low Lake — A local favorite for fishing and paddling, known for record-setting walleye and easy summer evenings.
- Pintail Lake — A wildlife viewing area north of town with boardwalks and a birding overlook where elk and waterfowl are common.
- Deuce of Clubs — The historic main street, lined with shops, cafes, and the seasonal events that anchor town life.
- Torreon and Bison Ridge — Two of the area’s premier gated communities, with golf, trails, and custom mountain homes among the pines.
